Six Family (and Budget-Friendly) Activities Around Merrylands

Six Family (and Budget-Friendly) Activities Around Merrylands
04/2022

Merrylands is a neighbourhood rich in tradition, where generations of families have built a community that is strong, proud and welcoming to all. Located just five minutes from Parramatta, Merrylands real estate is proving more popular than ever for first home buyers and young families looking for a place to call home.

Before considering a new suburb for your family, it’s important to picture what your lifestyle would look like day-to-day. Merrylands and its surrounding suburbs in Western Sydney offer plenty of fun activities for families looking to forgo expensive attractions, or just try somewhere new.

We rounded up our favourite family-friendly ideas that won’t break the bank and are only a short drive from the centre of Merrylands, or your future home at Mason & Main.

Dine in – or out

Pack a picnic for Holroyd Gardens Nature Reserve, located just 600m from Mason & Main or a 3-minute drive.

Pick up your favourite picnic foods and snacks from Stocklands Merrylands and take a short walk or drive to Holroyd Gardens Nature Reserve. There are three electric barbeques to prepare a sausage sizzle for lunch, and covered picnic tables and benches to enjoy a family feast. There’s also plenty of soft grass to lay a picnic blanket on, playgrounds for the kids, and a bike path for family rides.

Dinner and a show at The Middle Feast – 2.4km from Mason & Main / 7-minute drive

If the floor-to-ceiling decorations and warm atmosphere don’t transport you to the Middle East, the menu certainly will. With a massive selection of mezze, mains, and desserts, it’ll take you a few visits (at least!) to taste everything on The Middle Feast’s authentic Arabic menu. Be sure to visit on a Saturday night to catch live music and entertainment – the Middle Eastern way, of course.

Get back to nature

Visit Central Gardens Nature Reserve – 2.7km from Mason & Main / 7-minute drive

Explore animal enclosures, bush trails, adventure playgrounds, ponds, and waterfalls – all in one place. This protected nature reserve also has all the essentials for a day out, including barbeque and picnic areas, plus a bookable tennis court if you’re keen for a tournament.

Enjoy a day trip at Parramatta Park – 2.7km from Mason & Main / 10-minute drive

Covering 85 hectares, you’ll need more than a day to enjoy all that it has to offer. The park has several sheltered picnic areas and barbecues, two giant playgrounds, and a 3.2km loop bike and walking path. It also has a café, a restaurant, and a high tea venue if you don’t feel like bringing your own lunch.

Go for a paddle at Lake Parramatta Reserve – 6.1km from Mason & Main  / 17-minute drive

After bushwalking, picnicking, and pedal boating around this 70-hectare reserve, finish the day with a dip in Lake Parramatta. Whether you prefer to splash or do laps, there’s lots to enjoy at Lake Parramatta Reserve.

Head to the new museum

Powerhouse Museum in Parramatta – 4.0km from Mason & Main / 13-minute drive

One of the most highly anticipated openings in Western Sydney will be ready by the time Mason & Main residents move in. This interactive science and technology museum is set to become a major attraction for locals and visitors to the area. Due to open in 2023, it’s the largest cultural infrastructure project in New South Wales since the Sydney Opera House!

Wind down at home

Nothing beats relaxing and recouping in your own private escape following a big day out with the family. Cool off with the kids in the pool or work out and wind down in style with your own gym and wellness centre on your doorstep.
